Writing may seem like such a simple thing
to do -- sit down with a pad and pen or in front of a
computer keyboard and just start creating. Yet it can
be fraught with problems.
- What do you want to write?
- How do you say what you want to say?
- Are you saying it in the best way?
- How can you come up with fresh ideas?
- What should you do with your writing once you've
finished writing?
- How can you get published?
- How do you get people to read what you've written?
Over the years I have taught a variety of writing classes
and I keep finding new writers with questions about how to
get started with their books or wanting forms that can help
them keep track of their work in progress. As a
result, I have developed a special web page for writers
designed to help answer some of these writing questions.
Please visit it if you need help. It is
writethatnovel.com.
The website is filled with ideas, exercises and forms that
can help you with your writing.
I am also listing on this page some of the forms I have
made available at that site. These are simple forms that I
have found useful over the years. I designed them as a
convenience to keep track of my work. I find that every time
I start plotting a book I return to using them to keep track
of various aspects of my story. These forms can be
completely filled out or partially filled in as the need
arises. I've always kept them available on my desk beside by
computer so that I don't confuse characters and so that I
make certain the plot is moving in the right direction.
If you have ideas or forms you'd like to share, by all means, let
me know. I'll be happy to share them and give you
credit.
